It has been a busy month! Yesterday I photographed a beautiful outdoor wedding (Andy and Megan) along the Mississippi. I am uploading photos to my computer and thought I'd just post a teaser. More to come!

Photo Assignment :Bugs:

On Friday my plan is to take some pictures of :bugs: and enter in the PW Photograph Contest. I have been following Ree Drummond's blog, Pioneer Woman for sometime now and I've always enjoyed viewing her photography and also the tutorials she provides on PS.

She has been conducting these Photography Contests where people enter their best picture of the day, runs for five days, and at the end of the contest she will critique each one. I am looking for some good critiquing so I figured why not?

Thursday and Friday a friend from out of town is staying with us so it might be a fun assignment for the two of us with the kiddos in tow. We'll see how it goes but that is something I'd like to do.

Last week I had the opportunity to photograph Heather (38 weeks!) at a park in Eden Prairie. Her husband, Harry and daughter Sophia were supposed to come too but they couldn't make it, last minute.

Samuel Thomas Christopher was born September 1st at 8:01 am, weighing 8lbs, 9oz.

Busy Days Ahead

I have quite a few busy days ahead. Tonight I am meeting with a bride to discuss her wedding details, yay Amy! Saturday I am attending a wedding in Stillwater, Sunday I am photographing a couple for their engagement session and Monday I am meeting with another couple for their October wedding!

There is so much going on these days but I am really excited to get this wedding season kicked off, especially now with my new purchase. :)

I would say that my most enjoyable time spent on the Internet is browsing the Yahoo! News Week in Photos. I look forward to viewing the Week in Photos because I love photojournalism and all the reality it beings to the table though photographs. I could sit down and read a news story but an image is just as important because it allows the observer to actively think of what is taking place in the photo. What is the story behind the photo? For us visual learners a photo is important because it allows the reader to understand a little more by seeing the time, place, and location rather than communicated by writing. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Take a look at the Yahoo! News Week in Photos.

I can't believe 2007 is wrapping up and in just a matter of days we will be in 2008. We are looking forward to our weddings in 2008 and the many more to come. Before our next wedding I will be purchasing the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, as one of our goals for the new year! This will be a big investment but definitely worth it in the long run. I am excited to get the year started with this fun purchase and I look forward to photographing the weddings of 2008 with Milestone Memories!

Today is Thanksgiving, a day of relaxing and kicking back with your friends and family. I am so excited because just yesterday I shipped off the final product for the wedding my mom and I did back in October, and only just one month after the wedding. What a huge accomplishment, to be done a whole month ahead of schedule! Happy Thanksgiving!!

Wowzers! The time it takes to edit hundreds of pictures is amazing! I have taken this process little by little. I am just amazed at how long it could take if you really edited every photo to crop them or to adjust color, etc. I have been working on the photos now for two days with still a couple of days work ahead. It is a lot of fun but they are long days!

I am shadowing my mentor photographer in November for one of her weddings. I got in touch with her about some of the challenges I faced from my 1st wedding so she has agreed to work with me on improving my picture taking abilities! I am so excited to be going to this wedding with her. I hope to absorb as much information as possible while working with her.

october wedding

This weekend my mom and I photographed our first wedding together under the business name, Milestone Memories. It went really well considering what can unfold on a wedding day. Everyone showed up, no one was late, flowers arrived on time, and all was great, including the weather.

Our day started pretty early. We met the bride and her maids at a hair salon in Inver Grove Heights at 8:00 AM. We took some photographs of the girls getting their hair done and we wrapped up around 9:30 AM. We had a little bit of time in between so we stopped at the closest Starbucks and planned our game plan for the day.

We arrived at the church around Noon and we had until 3:00 PM to get the wedding party photographed, the families photographed, and of course the bride and groom! I thought we would have too much time but we ended up taking all that time. The great thing about the site was that it was all in one location, the church and reception hall were across from each other and the historic buildings were just a short walk away. By the time we went to a few locations, within the site, and took some photographs it was 3:00 PM, an hour to spare before the ceremony. The time flew by so quickly and I felt that I still wanted more photos.

The ceremony was short and sweet. After the ceremony my mom and I were busy taking photos of the bride and groom interacting with their guests. There was a lot of socializing so we got many candid pictures. The bride and groom did the cake cutting right away and the first dance followed about 2 hours later. We were finally wrapping up the night around 8:00 PM.

My mom and I went home, attempted to watch a movie and then crashed right away! It was a good day but it was a lot of work and a lot of pressure.

good weather?

Just the other day we went to scope out the church and reception hall for the wedding we are photographing on the 20th. It is a wonderful place to have a wedding. It is called the Little Log House Pioneer Village, in Hastings, MN. It is very cute and has so much history – it is a great place to photograph a wedding.

My mom and I are anxiously waiting for October 20th when we will photograph our first wedding together. I am excited to see how she does with the crowd and what pictures she will get. I am also hoping for good weather. Geez, you’d think I was the bride!

P.S. We booked another wedding for 2008! Amazing.

about the new business

I have wanted to start a wedding photography company for some time now. I started thinking about this new business even before I graduated from college. A friend of mine and her sister are in the business and I was so excited to see how their business developed and how much clientele they've built over the years, its just been an inspiration! I have photographed a few weddings in the past but I am excited to start photographing under an official business name.

I would say that I needed a push to get into the entrepreneurial industry. I was a little nervous at first - starting your own company is a huge deal, but now that I've established the company and have started it up I feel more confident. The dive is the hardest part but once it gets going your natural ability just kicks in gear.

My business partner is my mom! She is a great photographer and has many years of experience behind a camera. I don't think that I've ever seen her without one in hand! She is very detail oriented and can see details that I sometimes can not, so it is great that she is on board.
